The North American Society for Intelligence History (NASIH) is pleased to announce a call for papers for its fourth conference to be held [TBD]
Call for Papers
NASIH is a leading forum for the advancement of intelligence history and intelligence studies in North America and beyond. The annual conference provides a setting for exchange between intelligence scholars, practitioners, and students from around the world.
For the 2024 conference, the Program Committee welcomes paper and panel proposals relating all aspects of intelligence history from around the globe and of all periods. We especially encourage proposals pertaining to subjects outside the Anglosphere. Proposal topics may include but are not limited to cultural, social, or legal history of intelligence; popular culture and intelligence; non-state actors in intelligence history; SIGINT and cyber intelligence; economic and business intelligence; intelligence analysis; counterintelligence; the history of spies and espionage; covert operations; whistleblowers; or influence operations. We also welcome proposals on the craft of intelligence history, archives and declassifications, and teaching intelligence history.
NASIH values inclusion. The Society welcomes applications from female scholars and scholars from diverse backgrounds. Graduate students are particularly welcome to apply, and some scholarship support may be available for students.
Submission Guidelines
Proposals must be received no later than [TBD]. The Program Committee intends to inform applicants of results by late January 2023.
Every person proposing a paper or participating in the conference must be a NASIH member as of the date of the proposal. The Society’s membership page is [LINK]. To ensure the broadest possible participation of the membership, no NASIH member will be assigned to more than two panels during the conference (one paper and one chair/discussant role or two chair/discussant roles).
Submissions of pre-organized panels and roundtables are highly encouraged.

Panel proposals:
Panel proposals should include three papers and at least one person to serve as both chair and discussant. Having separate individuals serve as chair and discussant is optional; the chair may also serve as discussant if desired. Each panel proposal should include a panel title, a 300-word abstract explaining the panel theme, a paper title and 300-word abstract for each proposed paper, and a one page curriculum vitae or biography for each panel member, including chair and discussant. The one page curriculum vitae must include institutional affiliation and email address for each panelist. Please submit all proposal items in a single combined PDF file.

Roundtables:
Roundtables offer a forum for facilitated discussion on a theme among scholars without the necessity of individual research papers. Roundtable proposals must include a panel title, a 300- word abstract explaining the theme and key questions for the discussion, and a one-page curriculum vitae for each participant that includes institutional affiliation and email address for each person. Roundtables should include a maximum of five speakers. Please submit all proposal items in a single combined PDF file.
NASIH particularly encourages panel and roundtable proposals that recognize the full diversity of the Society’s membership. Priority will be given to proposals that include participants from across the spectrum of ranks, gender, ethnicity, career paths, race, age, and institutional affiliations.

NASIH also welcomes individual paper proposals. The Program Committee will assign individual papers to appropriate panels with their own chair/discussant. Individual papers should include a paper title, a 300-word abstract of the paper, and a one-page curriculum vitae that includes institutional affiliation and email address.

NASIH members who wish to assist the conference by serving as a panel chair may submit a one-page curriculum vitae that notes an interest in the panel chair role. Include institutional affiliation and email address in the curriculum vitae.
